Advocate

The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park and its members play a major role in defending, protecting and enhancing Ohio’s only national park by helping create a unified voice on behalf of important issues that affect Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP).

The Conservancy’s advocacy efforts range from impacting our federal legislators about Cuyahoga Valley National Park funding priorities, to protecting this national treasure through generating grassroots community support, as in the recently successful Conservancy advocacy campaign for protection of lands adjacent to Blossom Music Center.

Conservancy staff also work with local community leaders to ensure they are aware of important resource management issues involving the national park within their communities.

Obstacles occasionally arise that jeopardize park resources or park visitor experiences. The Conservancy brings the strength of over 2700 members to bear by both directly advocating for the national park and mobilizing public engagement on issues.

If you have concerns you would like to be known, contact the Conservancy at info@forcvnp.org  and contact our CVNP congressional delegation:

A Story of Advocacy

“I am intensively protective of the valley. As a transplant to the region nearly 40 years ago, my family immediately started to explore the area before it was officially a protected national treasure. I’ve been involved with advocacy campaigns since 1984 to protect and enhance the park and surrounding green spaces. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio & Erie Canal, Towpath Trail, and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad have become the backbone to revitalizing tourism in Northeast Ohio. In a like manner, I am currently championing a total Cuyahoga River concept. When we have the dams down, the proposed Cuyahoga River Water Trail will become the Artery for regional tourism and the restored Cuyahoga River Gorge will become its heart.”
