Training and Continuing Education

We provide various training courses to best prepare volunteers and to enrich your experience.  Find the schedule of upcoming courses and how to register for them on CVNP's website.

Volunteer Orientation
All volunteers are required to attend the new volunteer orientation, "VIP Fundamentals: Becoming Stewards, An Introduction to National Park Service Volunteerism," within their first six months.

Online Training
All volunteers are encouraged to take free online courses via Eppley Institute. Free courses include three different Introduction to National Park Service courses, and  Foundations of Interpretation.

Specific Trainings
Some volunteer groups require specific training in interpretation, using government property, and safety. View the training matrix on pages 31-32 in the Handbook for  Volunteers-in-Parks of Cuyahoga Valley National Park to view training requirements. Staff supervisors will inform volunteers of how soon these trainings need to be taken.

To make sure you will be recognized for your course completion, please print the certificate at the end of your training and give a copy to your volunteer supervisor and email a copy to the volunteer office at volunteer@forcvnp.org. Additional interpretation courses are available via Eppley Institute; contact Park Ranger Josh Bates for a discount code.

Does your company match volunteer hours?

Many companies demonstrate social responsibility and promote community relations
by offering a donation to the organizations at which their employees, spouses,
and retirees volunteer.

Find out if your company will match your volunteer hours by perusing this list of "volunteer match" programs or by clicking the arrow below.
