Brecksville, Ohio – The National Park Service and Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA) are pleased to announce a new affiliate group of CVNPA, the Cuyahoga Valley ED-Venture Group.The ED-Venture Group will offer visitors opportunities to learn skills in backpacking, camping, hiking, and more outdoor recreational experiences. The first program offered is Basic Backpacking and Overnight Camping in Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP). Participants will learn the basics of backpacking including tips on selection for clothing, food, shelter, and gear. Supplies and materials are not included.
Three classes are offered from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays, August 3, 10, and 17 at Boston Store Visitor Center, 1548 Boston Mills Road, east of Riverview Road in Peninsula, Ohio. Overnight trips are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, September 12 -13 and/or October 3 - 4 in the national park. Participants must attend all three classes to be eligible for the overnight trips.
Park volunteers will instruct the backpacking classes and manage the overnight trips. The volunteers are members of the Northeast Ohio Backpacking Club, a free, online group that promotes hiking and backpacking. Visit www.neohbackpackingclub.com for more information.
The class is FREE to CVNPA members and is $35 for individual/ $45 for a couple (this includes a CVNPA membership). For a limited time during the first year, the affiliate group fee of $15 is waived. An ED-Venture Group membership form can be downloaded from the membership page at www.cvnpa.org or by calling CVNPA at (330) 657-2909. Phone registration is required for all sessions. Individuals can register for a class the same time as becoming a member of ED-Venture.
