CVNPA, IGO Present Wilderness First Aid Weekend Retreat

Peninsula, Ohio- Join Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA) and Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO) for the Wilderness First Aid weekend in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This overnight workshop will stress the prevention of backcountry accidents and teach techniques to perform appropriate wilderness emergency care. The curriculum for Wilderness First Aid includes:

·   Assessment and treatment of specific injuries
·   Evacuation techniques
·   Creating a level of personal preparedness
·   Long-term patient care in prolonged transport situations
  The weekend will include classroom lectures and discussions combined with hands-on experiences.  Mock rescues will be practiced in the field, which will allow participants to practice skills learned in class such as group decision making, emergency medical assessments and rescue techniques.

Cost:                   $245 per person (includes lodging, meals, text, use of first aid equipment and a bonus Saturday evening program)

Instructors for Wilderness First Aid are from Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO), a recognized leader in educational programs involving wilderness emergency, care, leadership and rescue skills. All SOLO instructors are experienced rescue personnel with extensive outdoor recreational and leadership experience and teaching backgrounds.
