PENINSULA, Ohio (May 2011) – Born and raised in rural Illinois, Jen Doss had the perfect setting to spark her interest in the natural world. A former Artist in Residence for the Banff Centre for the Arts, she is preparing for her next gallery exhibition in Peninsula, Ohio.
The exhibition entitled “Natural Distinction,” will open from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 and run through July 8 at the John F. Seiberling Gallery, located at 1403 W. Hines Hill Rd., within the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park offices in Peninsula.
“As a child I learned that nature is an everlasting surprise,” Doss explained. “Hours spent in gardens, woods, and streams during every season captivated me, and my love of art and nature grew. This exhibit features bold, simplistic nature-inspired paintings on blocks of wood brought to life with vibrant colors.”
Doss earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has been a recent featured artist at the University of Akron, and her work was chosen to set the stage for the 2010 Bioneers conference at the metro Tri-C campus.
Her Natural Distinction exhibit captures the beauty of nature with its bright colors, on a natural and unconventional canvas of wood.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Weekend viewings can be set up by appointment.
