Peninsula, Ohio –Don’t miss one of the most beautiful times of year in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Take advantage of all that the season has to offer along the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail and proudly display the new 2010 Towpath Tag. With a donation of $5, you will receive one of the new Towpath Tags. Sponsored by Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA), 100% of every dollar raised directly supports the on-going maintenance, safety and operation of the Towpath Trail. It costs Cuyahoga Valley National Park an average around $10,000 per mile or $200,000 per year to maintain the 20 miles of Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The 2010 Towpath Tag features a turtle of the type often seen while on the Towpath Trail.
Tags are available at several locations including all Cuyahoga Valley National Park visitor centers, local retailers, CVNPA’s website, and CVNPA’s two retail stores, Park Place in Peninsula, 1593 Main Street in Peninsula, and Trail Mix in the village of Boston. For a complete list of locations, please visit our website at www.cvnpa.org.
The Towpath Trail that winds through the Cuyahoga Valley was constructed in the 1800’s as part of the Ohio & Erie Canal and served as the path mules and horses walked to pull canal boats carrying goods south to the Ohio River and north to Lake Erie. Since 1997, the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Tag Program has provided Towpath Trail users the opportunity to help support the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
CVNPA is a non-profit organization created to engage public support for the park and provide services to enhance public use and enjoyment of the park. For more information about CVNPA and its membership program, visit www.cvnpa.org or call (330) 657-2909.
