Benjamin Monreal, Assoc. Professor of Physics, Case Western University

The words ‘particle physics’ might make you think about giant accelerators and supercolliders. However, when we’re talking about one of the weirdest and most elusive of particles, the neutrino, it turns out that ‘natural’ sources rather than accelerators have driven many of our discoveries. The sun, the Earth’s atmosphere, and exploding stars are all neutrino sources. In this talk I’ll give a tour of neutrino physics, highlighting the 35th anniversary of Northeast Ohio’s historic role in detecting a supernova, and my hopes to build future underground neutrino observatories here.

Ed Caner

Ed Caner (violin, viola profunda) spent a dozen years performing as a sideman in national touring bands and orchestras, including Page & Plant, Luciano Pavarotti, Smokey Robinson, and Natalie Cole. Whether performing solo or with his band Hey Mavis, he always amazes the audience with his Hendrix-like tone and precision. Ed was once labeled by the legendary music critic Jane Scott as “the most versatile musician on the planet”.

COVID Safety Guidelines

At this time, while community levels of COVID-19 are low, you are not required to wear a mask at Conservancy events. We ask that you still respect personal space and understand that some individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal reasons. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID, please stay home. We will continue to monitor community levels using the CDC’s new tool and may require masks again if transmission rates go up.

In the event that the spread of COVID is too large to gather safely, happy hour may be cancelled or postponed. If this happens, your ticket will be refunded.
