Four Reasons to Start Your CVNP Visit at the Boston Mill Visitor Center

By Dina from Dina’s Days

Want to plan the perfect afternoon at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park? Start here!

The Boston Mill Visitor Center is the National Park’s first centralized location where park visitors can orient themselves, discover what the park has to offer, and begin their CVNP experience. In true Northeast Ohio fashion, several community partners came together over the last decade to bring this place to life. In honor of the visitor center’s third anniversary serving new and returning park visitors, I’m sharing four reasons why you should consider starting your visit to the park at the Boston Mill Visitor Center.

1. Get oriented.

Whether you’re hiking, biking, riding, or kayaking, the staff at the visitor center can help you get oriented, answer questions, provide maps, and so much more. Park Rangers are informative and knowledgeable and will help you get exactly where you want to go.

Wall signage reads Plan Your Trip. Next to the signage us a large map of the park with markers for popular attractions and trails. Next to the map is a tiered display holder for free take-along park maps and brochures.

2. Start your visit or stay a while!

You can start your visit at the Boston Mill Visitor Center by checking in with the staff and getting some more information about your trail, or you can spend your entire visit at the visitor center. Be sure to check out the 3D tactile tabletop model of the valley in the middle of the room, explore the activities for kids, and read up on the history. Don’t forget to leave your special memory on the memories wall!

A tabletop relief map of Cuyahoga Valley National Park is opposite an informational wall with screens displaying photographs of the park.

3. Pick up a gift for a CVNP enthusiast.

From t-shirts, games, and even socks, the gift shop features merchandise and souvenirs for all ages. Have a park enthusiast on your holiday list? Stop by and pick up the perfect gift!

Two display tables in the Boston Mill Visitor Center gift shop display park-themed items for sale such as a calendar, socks, hats, t-shirts, and mugs. Across from the tables is a display wall with hanging merchandise such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, and tote bags.

4. Take a break and enjoy the views any time of year.

The Boston Mill Visitor Center is located in Peninsula with breathtaking views of the Cuyahoga Valley. Take a seat on a bench outside and enjoy the beautiful views, fresh air, and sounds of the Cuyahoga River any time of year.

Rocks within the Cuyahoga River create the illusion of whitewater as the water rushes over them. The right and left banks of the river are lines with dense green and brown brush and leafless trees bend toward the water.
